India is a land of vibrant colors rich in art and culture. Every state has its own distinct flavor. Rajasthan, a land of princes, lies in the northern part of India and is situated on the border of Pakistan. It is the second largest state of India. Nearly 1/3 of its territory is covered by the Thar Desert. The Thar Desert of Rajasthan hosts one of the most vibrant music and dance cultures of the world. Rajasthan displays a symphony of art and culture, seldom found elsewhere. It is the land of Maharajas with the invincible forts and imposing grand palaces, the vast Thar Desert, intriguing wildlife, indulging festivals and inspiring history. It is an amazing combination of modern industrialization in the cities and traditional and simple village life.

I was born in Jodhpur, a city of Rajasthan. I think, Other than the values given by my parents I was bestowed upon with a lot of heritage values like art, music and culture from this state. Probably that is why I have always been interested in music. This love of mine for music and culture gave me the strength to do something worthwhile in this field.

Colors of Rajasthan, is a cultural documentary exploring the rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan. INDIA. The film reveals the musical heritage of the Langa and Manganiar dance of the Kalbeliya and Kamad women, Puppetry art of Bhaat community, stunning acrobatic stunts by Raj Nat and Epic narrations by the Nayak devotees of Pabuji.

This documentary covers Rajasthan’s diverse folk music and performing traditions inherent in the people of this vibrant land. Vividly it features the musical heritage of the Langa & Manganiar, dance of the Kalbeliya and Kamad women, devotional songs on Meera and Par narrations by the Nayak devotees of Pabuji. It emphasizing the basic theme of drawing a path of learning among the children who are fore-bearers of the future folk music of these communities. In between it is punctuated by different popular sounds and visuals capturing the rural background. Both visually and musically it is a retreat to the eyes and ears in getting the perception of real life and music heritage of this state.

Rajasthan – the mood and rhythm of its living cultural traditions, the treasure trove folk music and folk songs inherent among its hereditary cast musicians, the folklore and folk drama all display the spectrum of its life and force. The true heritage of the state lies in its folk life of the masses inhabiting rural and remote lands. From them echoes the true melodies which has soothed the heart of people for generations.
